CHASING BEAUTY rug inspiration 2015 – part 1

This is the first “Chasing Beauty” video journal by Susan Hornbeak Ortiz, creative director for Shine by S.H.O. In this inaugural episode Susan touches on rug trends for 2015, which she sees as a shift from hardwood and concrete floors to the coziness of rugs. In upcoming episodes, Susan will touch on how to select rugs that add frosting to a room like jewelry on the body.

Our very own founder and creative director, Susan Hornbeak-Ortiz, was recently featured in the hit reality TV show, “I Am Cait!”

Susan can be seen on episode seven, which first aired on Sunday, September 6, 2015 on E! She will also be featured in episode 8 on Sunday, September 13th. Several Shine by S.H.O. pieces were selected by Caitlin’s design team to capture a sophisticated beach aesthetic for Caitlin’s Malibu home.

“It was truly and honor to work with Caitlin and her design team, and to have them visit the Shine by S.H.O. showroom,” said Susan. I have been a huge fan of Caitlin’s for quite some time, so to work with her to bring her vision of a fashionable, yet casual, modern home to life was a dream come true. She is one of the bravest women I have ever met, and with quite an eye for design!”

Three pieces in the Shine By S.H.O. collection, including the Halo Cabinet, Recaimer Side Tables and Guinevere Sofa, were selected for Caitlin’s bedroom and are featured in the final episode of the “I Am Cait” series in which Cait’s design team “unveils” the new look to Caitlin for the first time. Shine by S.H.O’s Collette Bed is slated for Caitlin’s guest room, once all remodeling of the Malibu home is complete.

Shine by S.H.O. caters to the interior design trade and furnishings are also available to the public. All Shine by S.H.O. bespoke pieces are handcrafted by the best furniture craftsmen in Southern California.

Behind the scenes of Shine by S.H.O’s new metal collection for Gilt

A quick peak at my new metal collection that I am developing for Gilt Home – launching in Spring 2015!

Red Fort, Agra
There are so many brilliant examples of arches in India…where do I begin? Let’s start with my strange obsession with the arch itself.
There is something magical about these simple and grand architectural details.
I am not quite what captures my attention and sheer amazement. Possibly it is a sort of architectural and engineering magic that they wield. They are functional (suspending the roof along with their counterparts: the columns)yet everything seems weightless and effortless ~ like a cloud carved in stone and plaster.
Arches are also passageways to other rooms and spaces ~ framing everything beautifully as one walks from space to space. They focus and cast light from space to space in an elegant and unique way.
So there you have it ~ architectural obsession uncovered ~
I literally walked into this colonnade and felt dizzy with inspiration and pleasure ~ hope you enjoy
